Dr. Cristiano is the Richard and Mildred Rhodebeck Professor of Dermatology and Professor of Genetics & Development, and Vice Chair for Basic Science Research in Dermatology at Columbia University. By working to elucidate the genes responsible for alopecia areata, Dr. Christiano's research has helped clarify the immunologic mechanisms behind the disease. Dr. Christiano will provide an update on genetic and immunological studies in alopecia areata.

Dr. Leslie Castelo-Soccio

Dr. Leslie Castelo-Soccio will share everything parents need to know about alopecia areata in children and adolescents, including the major differences between pediatric and adult patients, and the risks and benefits of current and evolving off-label treatment options. Dr. Castelo-Soccio is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Pediatric Dermatology research section at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Her research focuses on pediatric hair disorders and inherited genetic skin conditions.

Sanah Jivani is the founder and CEO of the Love Your Natural Self Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving self-esteem with a focus on empowering individuals through events, movements and hands-on sessions. A dual-degree student at the University of Pennsylvania, Sanah was named a Harry S. Truman Scholar and was featured on Good Morning America as a subject of Robin Roberts’ “Striver Thursday” for her work on behalf of others. She was inspired to help others after losing all of her hair to Alopecia in the 7th grade and subsequently struggling with her own low self-worth. Since then, her foundation has reached over 30,000 students in 100 schools and 28 countries through a curriculum that focuses on the social and emotional wellness of young people.

Natalie Mamerow

Natalie Mamerow will enlighten the group about her work as a NAAF Legislative Liaison and share tips for personal visits with your congressional representatives. She is the Senior Manager of Federal Government Relations for water resources, energy, public parks, and environmental infrastructure at the American Society of Civil Engineers. Previously, Natalie served in the Obama Administration as an Advisor to the Director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) at the U.S. Department of the Interior. Natalie played an integral role in launching the inaugural BOEM/California Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Task Force, which sought to establish collaboration among a diverse set of stakeholders to identify potential areas in federal waters suitable for offshore wind renewable energy development.

Dr. Shapiro is Professor of Dermatology at the New York University Langone Medical Center and is a leading expert in clinical studies involving alopecia areata. Dr. Shapiro is one of the most experienced hair dermatologists in the world and has specialized in hair disorders for the past 25 years. He is the first dermatologist in the world to exclusively restrict his practice to both medical hair and scalp disorders as well as hair transplant surgery. He holds dual academic appointments at the New York University Langone Medical Center and the University of British Columbia. Dr. Shapiro is the founder of the first comprehensive integrated medical and surgical hair clinic in the world. His hair clinics are one of the busiest, if not the busiest, in the world.
